Per field settings

Each field in grouping can be further customized. 

Depending on the type of selected field you can set:

• Direction
• Interval
• Color

To customize a particular field 1, click on it to select it after which field settings section is displayed 2.

As you change any of the settings of a field, you can check what the end result looks like in preview 3. If preview section is not automatically updated, you can always press the Refresh preview button.

Direction

You can customize how you want groups created by grouping to be sorted. By default they are sorted in ascending order. Note that sorting of groups has nothing to do with sorting in views, they are independent of each other. Data within the groups themselves is still sorted as defined by the view.

Interval

Instead for grouping by their exact value, you can group dates by years, months, quarters etc.

Grouping by date is often impractical as dates are mostly unique for every record. That would mean that every group for a date value would actually have only a single record.

You can group dates by day, week, month, quarter and year.

You can further group by day, week, month and quarter of a year. For example if you group by quarter of a year Q1 of 2015 and Q1 of 2016 would fall into the same group.

Color

By default runsimply has predefined values for grouping colors and they are different for every level of grouping. You can customize these colors any way you like, just make sure that every level of grouping has a different color so you can easily identify them when viewing your data.
