Filters are used to select a subset of data according to your criteria.
Using filters you can for example say that you want to display all requests that you have assigned to others in the past month, that have not been resolved yet but have a high priority.
Filters allow you to create both simple and complex conditions for data selection. You can group many conditions and you can use both conjuction (AND operator) and disjunction (OR operator) to connect your conditions.
Like views and groupings, new filters are private by default and only you as their creator can access them but you can make filters public so that anyone can use them.
NOTE: If you often use a particular filter for analyzing your data, you might be better of creating a new report with that filter. You might even want to embed such a report directly into your dashboard to make it even easier to access your data.
